The Alienation of Women’s Discourse on Chinese Social Media

The burgeoning gendered terms and the derogatory languages that underpin patriarchy on Chinese social media emerge as an encumbrance to development of women’s discourse which is plagued with alienation. Given this, this paper reviews recent research progress into alienation media, manifest representations produced by language seek possible solutions for constructing healthy discourse. Through analyzing from lens language, review cites examples in previous illustrate how characters relating women positive meaning have been derogated, demonstrates ways express public sphere are influenced male-dominated Three factors conspire discourse, namely consumerism fueled Internet communication, imbalance between ingrained patriarchal culture context, passive action taken themselves.
